You won’t believe what LG was originally called… but you’ll soon see why they changed the name
The previous title didn't quite give out the cool tech vibes the brand has today
THAT well-known company LG has not always been so easy to say... in fact it used to be called something quite different.
It might not be a total surprise, given big firms like Google have changed their name. Yep, that search engine was initially called BackRub.
So what did tech giant LG go for at first?
Initially it was called Lucky Goldstar’, which maybe doesn't trip off the tongue quite so easily.
Lak-Hui was a Korean company which expanded into plastics under the GoldStar name.
In 1958 the two companies merged, and as Lak-Hui is pronounced "lucky", Lucky-Goldstar was born.
The problem with this unlikely name was that it just didn’t seem to give off the cool vibes of the LG we know today - with the double barrelled disaster sounding more like a budget washing powder than a high tech gadget.
So in 1995 it was changed to LG, and the look of the brand was updated too with the logo changing from hot pink with stars, to a small simple circular design.
The brand also took on the sleek slogan "Life’s good" and successfully stormed the American market.

The lesson learned here is that perhaps a big change may be the best option to succeed, and that sometimes a change of name really can be a good thing.
It's not just companies which change names either - one mum swapped her tot's name THREE TIMES because she couldn't find one she liked.
