Mix and match bikinis or wear your favourite one-piece twice, while friends have no idea you’re hitting the beach in the same item.

But keep it clean – hygiene expert at Everteen, Hariom Tyagi, says: “We would recommend rinsing and drying the swimsuits properly before each wear.”

Here, SIOBHAN O’CONNOR asks model Emma Atkins to try out reversible swimsuits and give her verdict on their better sides . . . and if they’re worth a dip into your purse.

My favourite, I like that the pink side has orange piping, it gives it a sporty touch.

I think colour-block options are easier to wear, you just have to decide which colour you fancy that day.

It’s simple but stylish.

I prefer the blue side as it compliments my skin tone better.

The skimpy cut makes it so sexy – it shows off your cleavage but gives a bit of side boob.

You are definitely getting two for the price of one and the skimpy style is good for sunbathing.

I really like the polka dot, it is vintage Fifties, but the floral side just looks dated.

I’m not sure I would wear it this way round.

I definitely prefer the Aztec side, the pattern is fun and the colours would enhance my tan.
The bikini bottoms are super-tiny though, and uncomfortable
