HSBC suffers app outage with hundreds of users experiencing problems
HSBC'S online banking app went down at lunchtime today with hundreds of customers unable to get into their account.
On website DownDetector, there were 257 reports of problems with HSBC shortly before 1pm this afternoon.
But as of 1.30pm, complaints on Twitter have started to slow down and HSBC told us the outage is now fixed having lasted around 23 minutes.
The bank is now looking into the cause of the problem.
It couldn't confirm exactly how many customers were affected but said one in three attempts to login were unsuccessful.
The issue appears to be centred around logging into the app.
Annoyed customers expressed their anger about the outage on social media.
One person said: "Trying to make a payment but can't even log in due to a 'system error'."
While another asked: "Is internet banking down? I'm trying to log on to no avail."
Someone else added: "Can't get on to my mobile internet is it down?"
A spokesperson from HSBC confirmed there was a problem with its online banking but said the issue has now been sorted.
The spokesperson said: "For twenty minutes this lunchtime there was a minor issue where one in three log-ins to HSBC UK mobile banking app had problems.
"Two in three were able to log-on successfully, so it might have taken customers a couple of attempts to log on.
"Telephone and online banking were always available and the HSBC UK mobile app is fully up and running again.
"We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused."
