PARENTS have been warned to check if they've got a set of two bibs from Ikea, which have been recalled amid fears tots could choke on them.

Ikea has issued the recall after receiving two reports of the buttons on the bibs coming loose.

While it says no medical attention was required, it is concerned the buttons could have been swallowed by babies.

Affected bibs are part of Ikea's MATRVA range and come in a two-pack with one blue bib with green lining around the edge and one red bib with yellow lining.

They have a product article number of 504.269.20.

The Swedish furniture manufacturer says the bibs were sold both in-store and online during August for £2.50 and that 3,796 were sold in the UK.

Your product recall rights

PRODUCT recalls are an important means of protecting consumers from dangerous goods.

As a general rule, if a recall involves a branded product, the manufacturer would usually have lead responsibility for the recall action.

But it's often left up to supermarkets to notify customers when products could put them at risk.

If you are concerned about the safety of a product you own, always check the manufacturer’s website to see if a safety notice has been issued.

When it comes to appliances, rather than just food items, the onus is usually on you - the customer - to register the appliance with the manufacturer as if you don't there is no way of contacting you to tell you about a fault.

If you become aware that an item you own has been recalled or has any safety noticed issued against it, make sure you follow the instructions given to you by the manufacturer.

They should usually provide you with more information and a contact number on its safety notice.

In some cases, the manufacturer might ask you to return the item for a full refund or arrange for the faulty product to be collected.

You should not be charged for any recall work - such as a repair, replacement or collection of the recalled item.

But now it's asking parents to stop using the bibs and to return them to an Ikea store for a full refund - you won't need proof of purchase.

In a statement on its website it said: "We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your understanding."

But it adds that a similar two-pack of with a fruit and vegetable design currently being sold online are unaffected.

Earlier this year, Ikea recalled chocolate covered marshmallows due to fears they could trigger allergic reactions.

While last year it recalled extendable tables over concerns they could collapse and cause injury.

It has also issued a safety warning over fears babies could plunge off its Sundvik changing table.
