FRIGHT NIGHT

Starbucks is selling a ‘phantom frappuccino’ for Halloween that’s green and black and tastes of mango and lime

Starbucks' new Phantom frappuccino

IF you’re in the market for a seriously spooky beverage, you can quench your thirst with Starbucks’ new Halloween-inspired "phantom frappuccino".

The coffee chain's ghoulish drink is black in colour, which it says is a European first, with a slime-inspired green drizzle topping.

But don't judge a book by its cover, as Starbucks' iced drink is a rather delicious sounding tropical blend of coconut milk, mango and pineapple, plus Starbucks' crème frappuccino syrup.

The optional whipped cream topping is made from coconut milk and black charcoal powder, while the "slime lime drizzle", which is also optional, is made from spirulina extract (a type of algae), charcoal powder, and lime and lemon juice.

And as the drink is crafted with dairy-free coconut milk, Starbucks says that means it's vegan friendly.

Prices start from £2.70 for a mini including cream and drizzle, and increase in line with the size of the drink - prices also vary from store to store so check first if you're on a tight budget.

For those watching what they eat - and drink - calories start at 193 for the mini Phantom, including the cream and drizzle.

Calories then rise to 231 for the tall, 326 for the grande, and 361 for the venti.

Just be aware that if you're expecting a caffeine hit you won't get one as the drink doesn't contain coffee.

But you'll have to go quick if you want to get your hands on the phantom as just like a ghostly apparition it won't be around for long.

It's only in stores from October 26 right up until November 3.

If you're getting into the autumnal spirit, you can also order a caramel apple pumpkin spice drink from Starbucks' secret menu.

Meanwhile over in the US, you can get a strawberry frappuccino from Starbucks inspired by horror movie IT Chapter Two.

And Disneyland Starbucks does a purple and green Maleficent frappuccino that tastes of blueberries and matcha tea.
