Pot Noodles recalled over fears it will trigger allergic reactions
PACKS of Pot Noodles have been pulled from shelves after a labelling error means that they could trigger allergies.
The 90g pots of Beef and Tomato flavoured instant noodles contain celery and mustard but the ingredients aren't listed on the packaging.
Both mustard and celery allergies are believed to be rare in the UK, according to Anaphylaxis Campaign, but reactions to the ingredients can be severe.
Symptoms of an allergic reaction to the foodstuffs tend to come on rapidly after they've been consumed, and include a rash or hive or a tingling or itchy feeling in your mouth.
In more serious cases, it can cause someone's face or throat to swell making it difficult to breath, and even stomach pains and vomiting.
In some people, they can make you go into anaphylactic shock causing you to fall into unconsciousness.
Your product recall rights
PRODUCT recalls are an important means of protecting consumers from dangerous goods.
As a general rule, if a recall involves a branded product, the manufacturer would usually have lead responsibility for the recall action.
But it's often left up to supermarkets to notify customers when products could put them at risk.
If you are concerned about the safety of a product you own, always check the manufacturer’s website to see if a safety notice has been issued.
When it comes to appliances, rather than just food items, the onus is usually on you - the customer - to register the appliance with the manufacturer as if you don't there is no way of contacting you to tell you about a fault.
If you become aware that an item you own has been recalled or has any safety noticed issued against it, make sure you follow the instructions given to you by the manufacturer.
They should usually provide you with more information and a contact number on its safety notice.
In some cases, the manufacturer might ask you to return the item for a full refund or arrange for the faulty product to be collected.
You should not be charged for any recall work - such as a repair, replacement or collection of the recalled item.
The Pot Noodles are being pulled as a precautionary measure and no one has yet reported of having a reaction as a result of eating it.
Affected pots have a batch code of L9282 and a best before date of July 2020. These can be found on the white rim of the pot.
If you have an affected pack at home and you know that suffer with a mustard or celery allergy, do not eat it.
Instead, you should call the dedicated customers care line for free on 0800 146252.
In a recall notice issued on the Food Standard Agency website, the manufacturers said: "We would like to apologise for any inconvenience and concern caused and thank everyone in advance for their co-operation."
No other Pot Noodle Beef and Tomato flavoured batches or other tastes are affected by the recall.
