Wetherspoon in £200m spending spree on new pubs and hotels creating 10,000 new jobs
WETHERSPOON is to invest more than £200million on pubs and hotels over the next four years, creating 10,000 new jobs in the process.
The company made the announcement this morning and confirmed the money will also go towards improving existing boozers, as well as on new pubs and hotels.
The majority of the money will be spent in small and medium sized towns, but will also include larger cities.
New pubs and hotels are expected in Bourne in Lincolnshire, Diss in Norfolk, Ely in Cambridgeshire and Felixstowe in Suffolk.
There's also new establishments being opened in Hamilton in Scotland, Newport Pagnell in Buckinghamshire, Prestatyn in North Wales and Waterford in Ireland.
In terms of bigger cities, Spoons has confirmed new pubs and hotels in London, Dublin, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Birmingham, Leeds and Galway.
Punters can expect the first batch of new pubs and hotels to appear in March 2020, Wetherspoon told The Sun.
Wetherspoon founder and chairman, Tim Martin, said: “We are looking forward to opening many more new pubs as well as investing in existing pubs over the next four years.
“We are especially pleased that a large proportion of the investment will be in smaller towns and cities which have seen a decline in investment in recent years.
“The fact that we will be creating approximately 10,000 jobs is great news too.”
Wetherspoon currently has 875 pubs and 58 hotels across the UK and Republic of Ireland.
The pub chain employs around 44,000 staff.
