Baffled shoppers spot Easter eggs and hot cross buns in shops almost days after Christmas

BAFFLED shoppers have spotted Easter eggs and hot cross buns already on sale in supermarkets just days after Christmas.

There’s almost four months to go until the springtime holiday arrives but this hasn’t stopped Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Co-op and Waitrose shops from rolling out the seasonal treats.

Shoppers have been left confused by the appearance of the Easter treats in December as Easter Sunday isn’t not until on April 12 2020.

One Coop customer, Charlotte Donnelly, 33, said: “It’s like the shops are wishing our lives away.

“We had Christmas preparations from September onwards and now we’re all just recovering from that we’re being made to think about April already. It’s ridiculous.”

One Twitter user posted a picture of Cadbury creme eggs and other treats in a Sainsbury’s store yesterday and said: “Why @sainsburys, why?! It’s 27 December!”

Another reacted on the tweet and said: “@waitrose have replaced the mince pies with hot cross buns.

“We’re most upset as we’re not ready to give up on Christmas yet!”

Another user posted a picture of similar products at another Sainsbury’s store and said: “Early or very very late. Thank you Sainsbury’s but it’s still 2019.”

While a third spotted Cadbury Oreo eggs, and complained that “Christmas isn’t over yet”.

Other disappointed customers have even gone as far as accusing the stores of “ruining Christmas” by stocking Easter chocolates as early as Christmas Eve.

But not everyone’s unhappy about it, with Instagram account sharing Easter eggs up for grabs at Tesco, including ones tasting of Hershey’s cookies ‘n’ creme and Reese’s peanut butter.

Shoppers can also already get their hands on Lindt chocolate bunnies for 50p each in some of the supermarket’s branches.

Easter eggs are selling for up to £2.50 depending on what store you go to.

Foodies approved of the move, with one user commenting: “Ahh Kev, you’ve lifted my post-Xmas slump!!”

While another said about the creme eggs: “Oooh these look yummy!!”

Supermarkets generally start selling Easter chocolates at the beginning of the new year, but some shops can decide themselves to stock it early.

Co-op, for example, told a customer on Twitter that it’s started selling Easter chocolates already following requests from shoppers.

Last year, shoppers spotted Easter chocolate and hot cross buns in stores as early as mid-December.

Meanwhile, supermarket staff have earlier been accused of unwrapping Creme Eggs before they went on sale in search of a £2,000 white chocolate one.

In bad news for chocolate fans, the weight of Britain’s favourite Easter egg is a THIRD plastic packaging.
