B&M has so far remained open during the UK lockdown because it stocks food and grocery, pet food and hardware essentials.
But now the discount retailer is temporarily closing 49 of its 656 stores due to the pandemic.
The retailer said 42 of the 49 stores that are due to shut are close to other larger B&M stores.
The store is prioritising food and toiletries over general merchandise to keep shelves stocked with the most essential products.
But it has urged shoppers to observe social distancing measures while shopping.
