HUNDREDS of McDonald's fans caused a mile-long queue as the fast food chain reopened 160 drive-thrus.

A huge snaking line of cars clogged up the A36 in Salisbury this morning as eager customers waited to place their order at a newly reopened branch.

Yesterday the fast food giant threw back open the doors of dozens of takeaways, with delighted customers queuing for hours.

One super fan camped overnight to get his hands on a burger and chips in Gosport, although that branch tragically didn't reopen.

Fast food fans have been facing long queues at drive thrus across the UK - including Hull, Glasgow and Wakefield - as the chain finally reopened some northern branches.

The reopening hasn't been entirely well received by all however, with Southend residents given just a day's notice to move their cars from outside their homes as the McDonald's branch opened the gates once more.

In preparation for anticipated long queues, Southend Council posted a notice on Monday evening suspending parking on two roads - for up to two weeks.

A spokesperson for McDonald's said: "Our team in Southend has been proactive in engaging with the police and Southend Council to help manage the impact that re-opening will have on residents."

It comes after Maccies fans up north had accused the restaurant chain of “hating” them after its first batch of reopened sites were all in the south.

FAST FOOD FANS

Dozens of cars could be seen lining up across various locations when branches reopened, with some customers taking to social media to say they spent three hours queuing.

McDonald's has also reopened another 22 restaurants for delivery-only orders - although these are all in the south.

The fast food chain previously told The Sun that the reason why all the locations are in the south is because of distribution and food safety.

McDonald’s plans on having all 924 drive-thru locations open for business by this Thursday, June 4.

There is a slimmed down menu and reduced opening times of 11am to 10pm - due to having fewer staff working in kitchens at one time.

McDonald's is also asking customers to spend no more than £25 at both drive-thrus and when ordering for home delivery, to try and control high demand.

The fast food chain is also now allowing click and collect orders via the My McDonald's app again when using its drive-thrus.

McDonald's says this will help speed up orders after previously warning how their service will take longer than usual.
