How gyms could look when they reopen as David Lloyd reveals plans to comply with new social distancing rules

DAVID Lloyd has revealed a first glimpse of how its gyms will look as it prepares to reopen 50 branches for outdoor exercise classes - and it could give insight into how gyms across the UK will soon be operating.

Pictures show outdoor areas marked out with white squares so gym members can socially distance while they exercise.

Treadmills and other gym equipment have also been moved apart, in line with government requirements. 

In an update to customers today, David Lloyd confirmed it will be reopening 50 sites for outdoor exercise classes.

Classes on offer will include group exercises, yoga, pilates and bootcamp-style workouts such as HIIT.

David Lloyd will also reopen open air cycling studios.

The gym group started reopening its outdoor tennis courts on May 16, but only at clubs where tennis courts are accessible without having to enter gyms - you can find a .

As part of the changes in place, gym-goers are being asked to arrive in their workout clothes as changing rooms will be closed.

For exercise classes, there will be a maximum of five gym members plus an instructor allowed per session, and each person will have a designated area to work out in.

The instructor will ensure that any kit needed for the class is cleaned thoroughly after each class.

 Up to 90 classes a week will be on offer - these will need to be pre-booked online or via the David Lloyd app.

THE following David Lloyd gyms will be running outdoor exercise classes.

However, the gym group hasn't released a date for when they will reopen.

Gyms across the UK have been closed since May 20 due to the coronavirus lockdown, with the latest government advice suggesting they could reopen in July.

Previously, gym groups were told they had to stay shut until the autumn.

David Lloyd has 115 gym clubs across the country.

David Lloyd said in a statement: "We are opening certain clubs who are able to use their outdoor spaces to run a timetable of outdoor group exercises classes following the most recent government guidelines.

"Thank you so much for all your support and good wishes over the last few days and weeks."

Non-essential retailers, including toy, clothes and furniture shops, are set to reopen on June 15.

We've rounded up all the retailers that have confirmed the reopening of their stores.

Meanwhile, pubs, restaurants and hairdressers will not open until July 4 at "the earliest".
