McDonald’s vegetarian options slashed after recalling thousands of dippers
VEGETARIANS eating at McDonalds have to choose between chips or carrots after a quality issue with its veggie food.
Bosses found a huge batch of hundreds of thousands of its veggie dippers - also used in its vegetable deluxe burger - were poor quality.
The chain was forced to recall the entire run before it went on sale at its 1,300 restaurants because the insides had the wrong consistency.
McDonalds is now working on a replacement batch - but it has been delayed since they come from abroad.
Vegetarian McDonalds fan Cattie Murphy tweeted: “It’s really great that the only veggie option you can offer currently is fries or a bag of carrots - #feelslikethe90s. Is there a shortage of the veggie dippers?”
Restaurants have been selling out of the previous batch in the past week - so customers are noticing this week. McDonalds hopes they will be back on the menu early next week.
Some feared it was a permanent move in light of the limited menu after Covid. Charlotte tweeted: “So disappointing that @McDonaldsUK have cancelled all veggie options for the foreseeable (future). Fair enough needing a limited menu because of Covid but why cut off a whole group of people from being able to order?!?!”
McDonalds spotted the issue during product checks just before went on sale - so none actually went on sale.

A spokesperson said: “Due to an issue resulting in some of our Veggie Dippers have not met the high standards that we expect from our products, we have temporarily removed them from our menu. We are working hard to return our Dippers to the menu as quickly as possible, and apologise to our customers for any disappointment caused.”
Veggie dippers are not as popular as McDonalds other products so they only produce a batch once a fortnight, and they are made abroad - unlike the rest of the range.
Veggie Dippers, are made from red pepper, rice, sundried tomato pesto and split peas surrounded by light and crispy breadcrumbs.
