When does Sainsbury’s Nectar Double Up event start?
Shoppers at Sainsbury’s could double the value of their Nectar points from the end of October, as the supermarket’s annual bumper offer rolls around again.
The Double Up event is due back in stores, and will mean customers can exchange loyalty points collected throughout the year for vouchers worth twice as much.
Nectar is one of the best-known supermarket loyalty schemes. Having launched in 2002, it now has over a million customers.
Points from Double Up promotions in the past have allowed discounts on items in the following categories: electricals, toys, entertainment, seasonal, TU clothing, cosmetics, homeware, fragrances, wine, and skincare.
Rumours have circulated online that the dates for this year’s promotion will run between Wednesday 28 October and Tuesday 3 November online, or between Wednesday 11 November and Tuesday 17 November via the app to use in store.
Sainsbury's has not yet confirmed a date for this year, but we will update the piece when they have.
Nectar has said to customers on social media to keep your eyes peeled for an announcement.
Last year’s promotion ran between October 30 and November 5 online, or between November 13 and 19 via the app.
How do Nectar points work?
For last year's deal, savvy customers could double up to £50 of Nectar points with the promotion.
Through Nectar, customers can collect one point for every pound spent at Sainsbury’s. One point is normally worth half a penny in store, however this becomes a full penny when Double Up is in action.
Some customers save points up all year for this event.
As well as getting points on your weekly shop, you can also get them for shopping with hundreds of shops and brands.
There are 450 different retailers you can get points on, split between activities, entertainment, fashion, financial services, food & drink, gifts, health & beauty, home improvements, kids, technology, travel and utilities.
Some examples of stores that let you collect nectar are Dulux, Ao.com, Esso, Asos and Expedia.
The most recent chain to join the scheme is Argos.
Not all stores are equal in terms of Nectar points, with some offering loads more for every pound you spend.
For instance, Expedia were offering four points for every pound spent on your next holiday and retailers Topshop and Asos are offering two points for every £1 spent.

While you might be tempted by the promotion, don't fall into the trap of only shopping at one supermarket for the loyalty points - you may be able to get better deals elsewhere.
