Swap out your old clothing and bag pre-loved treasures with our top tips
RENEW, reuse, recycle. Repeat. Since the start of last year, resale sites have seen a surge in sales.
Swapping out your old clothing gives them a new lease of life and gives you the chance to bag a pre-loved treasure. Here are four of my favourite ways to swap and shop . . .
Facebook groups – There is a huge range of groups on the popular site where you can buy, sell or swap items. I like The Great British Clothes Swap. Once you have joined the group, upload pictures of the clothing you wish to sell or swap to get trading. This group prefers swaps but you can also sell items for a maximum of £20 each.
Loopster – Kids quickly outgrow their clobber, leaving parents with stacks of barely worn clothes that no longer fit. was set up by busy mum Jane Fellner to give parents the chance to sell on their kids’ clothes. You can also buy pre-loved clothing on the site for a fraction of high street prices. Simply order a Loopy Clear-Out Bag, fill it with your kids’ outgrown items then send it to Loopster HQ. There, the items will be quality checked. You then get an email stating how much your bag is worth. It you are happy with the offer, the cash will be transfered to you. If not, the clothes can be returned.
Depop – This is a great mobile app for buying, selling or swapping your clothing and accessories. It’s also full of bargains. I previously bagged a new pair of Dr Martens boots for £70 — half their retail price. If you are after a particular item, always thoroughly search the app before you pay full price elsewhere.
Nuw – Another app, this gives you the opportunity to borrow or swap clothing with fellow users. So, instead of splashing out on a new outfit to wear on your birthday, for example, you could borrow an under-loved piece for the occasion. You can borrow for as long as you like or you can swap one of your items with another user for a long-term effect. Download the app or head to thenuwardrobe.com to find out more.
