With the warm weather, footie to watch and pubs open, normality felt closer — but our wallets have been taking a beating.
Consumer spending rose by 7.6 per cent in May compared with the same period in 2019 — the highest growth since Covid restrictions began.
If you are one of those going over budget, here is how to regain control . . .
TAKE STOCK: Check your bank statement today. First, look for double charges that might have been made in error (this often happens during big weekend spending) and write down what you have spent in categories — food, drink, transport and so on — to work out where it all went.
BUDGET MONTHLY: Plan your spending for a month. I use a spreadsheet but has a great budget planner you can try.
GET SELLING: If you need a quick cash boost, see if you have something in the cupboard or loft you can pop on eBay, Depop or Vinted. Get old gadgets valued at . (It’s not just phones.)
DROP THE GUILT: All of us overspend from time to time, especially after the year we have had. The key is to figure out where to trim the budget for the rest of the month — you’ll be just fine.
