XMAS IS COMING

When can you book Christmas delivery slots for Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Asda, Morrisons, Ocado and Waitrose?

CHRISTMAS food delivery slots are in high demand this year, but some supermarkets still have bookings available.

The festive season is fast approaching and some retailers have already sold out of slots – but it’s still possible to book a delivery.

Supermarket Christmas delivery slots will become available in the next few months

Some supermarkets, such as Tesco and Sainsbury’s, haven’t even opened for bookings yet meaning you’re still in with a chance to bag a slot.

They usually get snapped up quickly, so make a note of when you can sign up to get a delivery from your preferred supermarket.

You’ll be in with a better chance if you pay for a delivery pass as members are given priority at Christmas.

Asda has some slots left over for non-members, but whether you can book is dependant on availability where you live.

If you can’t book a home delivery you might have more luck with a click and collect slot, so it’s worth checking.

We found some Morrisons click and collect spots available in south London, but all the home deliveries in the week leading up to Christmas were sold out.

Capacity filled quickly last year as there was an unprecedented surge in demand for online shopping during the pandemic.

There’s competition for slots this year too as shoppers are keen to stock up amid concerns that supermarkets could be hit with shortages.

These are the supermarkets where you might be able to secure a Christmas 2021 delivery slot.

Tesco

Tesco delivery saver customers will be able to book slots from 6am on November 16.

Tesco’s delivery saver service costs £7.99 per month and gives shoppers free deliveries on orders worth more than £40.

Shoppers who haven’t signed up to the delivery subscription service will be able to book a slot from 6am November 23, but they’re expected to fill up quickly.

To be in with a chance of securing a delivery, make sure you’re online and ready to book at 6am.

Morrisons

Morrisons has opened its Christmas 2021 food delivery bookings, but most of the slots have sold out.

We tried out a south London postcode and found there were no slots available from December 20 onwards.

Delivery pass holders get priority for deliveries between December 20 – 24.

In north London there were a handful of times available from 9pm onwards in Christmas week, but they cost £7.

There were more click and collect options available, which are free to book.

Morrisons also offers a food to order service, with everything you need for a Christmas dinner.

There are plenty of collection slots available for that option, but you won’t be able to use it to order ordinary groceries and ingredients.

Asda

Asda opened up its booking system last month, with delivery pass members getting priority access to Christmas slots.

Other shoppers were able to secure a booking from October 28.

There were plenty of slots left when we checked availability for a London address on November 3 – with all times available on December 20, 21 and 22.

If you live outside of London, there is more availability for delivery slots.

Some Christmas bookings were sold out on December 23 and there were none available on Christmas eve.

Asda said it had 900,000 home delivery and click and collect slots available in the week before Christmas.

It has more than doubled the capacity of its online delivery service since the beginning of the pandemic.

Asda has already revealed its Christmas menu for this year, including a candy cane sausage roll and Irish cream mince pies.

Sainsbury’s

Sainsbury’s shoppers can book a delivery from November 30, which will arrive in the week beginning December 20.

The supermarket warned that they’ll fill up fast and recommended that customers who miss out should look for a click and collect slot.

You can update your basket until 11pm the day before your delivery or collection is due, meaning you can make last minute changes to your order.

Waitrose

Waitrose has already launched its delivery slots for Christmas, and most have already sold out.

There were no slots available in the week before Christmas when we checked using a London address.

Click and collect options had also been completely booked up.

But you can still secure a food to order slot – which, like Morrisons and M&S, won’t allow you to buy ordinary groceries with your Christmas turkey.

Marks & Spencer

Marks & Spencer’s Food to Order service opened last month, and there are still collection slots available.

Shoppers can pre-order for collection from December 22, and the menu includes a sticky toffee pudding crown, churros and oysters among the options.

To order your Christmas menu,  where you can book a collection slot.

Then select the dishes that take your fancy, before paying a £40 deposit.

You’ll pay the balance owed when you collect your order from an M&S store from December 22 to Christmas Eve.

Ocado

Ocado Smart Pass customers were given early access to slots last month – although many complained that they sold out too quickly.

Even Smart Pass members aren’t guaranteed to get a slot due to the level of demand for deliveries.

Ocado said it will let customers know when they can book by email or text message.

This year Smart Pass members will get a free delivery voucher to use on their festive slot, which will be sent out via email.

Bookings between December 20 and 24 have a minimum spend of £90.

Customers will be sent an email or text the day before they are able to book their Christmas order.

You have to remain a smart pass member until your shopping arrives in order to get the free delivery.

If you end your membership before then, your food order might be cancelled.
