Following the great crisps-shortage, Greggs have now said they are running low on a range of items, including eggs to make their breakfast sandwiches.

The shortage comes after Greggs, which has over 2,000 stores nationwide, ran out of vegan sausage rolls last week and a shortage of chicken in August.

And fans of the chain are getting hangry.

One twitter user ranted: “Tried to buy breakfast baguettes this morning, the shop was out of bacon, egg and baguettes.”

Another frustrated customer said: “Is there still a shortage of eggs?? I’m really craving one of your breakfasts!”

Another fuming fan said: “I’m a huge Greggs fan, but this ‘omelette shortage’ that my three local Greggs keep citing whenever I order a bacon and omelette roll is getting tiresome.

“Please don’t tell me it’s Covid or pandemic?! They’re eggs! Come on!”

In response, Greggs tweeted: “We’re very sorry our Omelettes are temporarily unavailable.

“We understand this may be disappointing.

“We’re working super hard to get them back into our shops as soon as we can.

”It’s believed the shortage is due to a combination of labour shortages, a lack of HGV drivers as well as supply issues caused by Covid.

Cumbria was one the regions worst hit, with one customer ranting: "There seems to be an egg shortage in your Cumbrian outlets!

“It’s so disappointing. This vegetarian can’t seem to get an omelette roll anywhere in Cumbria!”

Another tweeted: “How come there’s never any egg for bacon butties in any of your stores?”

The chain has apologised for the shortage, admitting the items are “temporarily unavailable”.

Last month Greggs CEO Roger Whiteside warned that the firm had also suffered due to Brexit which had impacted on staffing and supply chains.

At the time, he said he “wakes up every morning asking what new item had disappeared”.

Despite concerns over supply, Greggs has recovered well from the pandemic with shares up over 70 percent this year.

Other major chains such as Nandos, Wetherspoons and McDonald’s have also suffered shortages in recent months.

A Greggs spokeswoman said: “We are experiencing a short-term production issue with our supplier which is affecting some availability of omelette.

“The supplier is working to resolve this and we hope to return to normal levels of availability as soon as possible.”
