McDonald’s adds McPlant to its permanent menu with vegan burger now available at every UK restaurant
MCDONALD’S has made a major change to its menu with the McPlant burger now permanently available at all UK restaurants.
After successfully trialling the plant-based dish at 250 branches since last autumn, bosses of the popular fast food chain have decided to make it a full-time fixture on the menu.
Food boffins at McDonald’s have been creating the McPlant burger for the past three years.
It includes a Beyond Meat patty and vegan cheese topped with gherkins, tomato, lettuce, ketchup and a vegan burger sauce in a classic sesame seed bun.
The burger costs £3.49 or £4.89 as part of a meal with chips and a drink.
But prices will vary between restaurants.
It’s also Vegetarian Society vegan approved – meaning there will be no cross contamination with animal products in the supply chain or the kitchen.
It comes in at 429 calories, compared to 518 for a beef quarter pounder with cheese.
The company has committed to achieving net zero emissions by 2050 and so has trialled a number of vegan offerings in recent times.
But fast food fans slammed the chain for its previous attempts at veggie food, including its veggie dippers.
We tested the McPlant burger last year and thought it tasted just like a quarter pounder with cheese.
