Cadbury quietly shrink Wispa bar by 7% while being sold at the SAME price

CADBURY Wispa bars have quietly shrunk in the last year - in a new blow to families facing soaring food prices.

Analysis by The Sun has found the popular choccy bars have seen cuts across the range, with the Duo reduced by almost 4g, or 7 per cent.

Fans blasted the latest round of size reductions, with one fuming on the Tesco website: “How can they possibly make the bars any smaller and for the same price as the previous 10 x 25.5g. 

“This is no longer value for money."

Last August the smaller four-pack of bars appeared on the Tesco website labelled as a new product.

But one fuming customer moaned: “No different than usual. The only thing NEW about them is that they are smaller than previous. Let's con the public and advertise them as NEW.”

And another said: "Very disappointed by another product affected by a reduction in size yet branded NEW. Same taste but smaller size yet no reflection on the price ! Baffling or what?"

Martyn James, of consumer campaign group Resolver, said: "Every year the nation’s favourite chocolate bars shrink in size even more – leaving us all deeply unsatisfied.

"We all need a treat in these challenging times, so it’s a real insult to reduce the size of our favourite chocolate bars just when money gets tight."

When The Sun approached Cadbury about the changes, it said the shrinking multipack bars were part of its anti-obesity strategy to make them less than 200 calories - announced in July 2020.

But the bars were already below 200 calories before the size reduction last year.

A spokesperson from Cadbury said: “From time to time we make changes to our product ranges while continuing to deliver the great quality and taste our fans enjoy. There are a number of reasons for this.

“These include adjusting portion sizes in line with our proactive strategy to help tackle obesity – and in July 2020, we committed to introducing a 200kcal cap on our Cadbury multipacks by the end of 2021, which we have now implemented.

“On other occasions, like many food businesses, we might need to slightly reduce the size or weight of a specific product, based on increased commodity and operational costs, to ensure that they remain affordable while maintaining the quality and taste which customers expect.”
