McDonald's took to Twitter to , saying that the burger is "sold out almost everywhere" after launching in stores on February 1.

However, it announced that the snack would be "back soon".

It tweeted: "Your love for the limited edition Chicken Big Mac knew no bounds and its sold out almost everywhere.

"Thank you for lovin' it even more than we thought you would, it'll be back soon."

But fans of the new snack are gutted it is no longer available in stores, and took to social media to complain.

"Nooooo I haven't had a chance yet! I am devastated," one fan said.

Another blasted the chain saying: "Back soon? Are u serious, just make it permanent!!!! It was the best thing I’ve ever eaten at McDonald’s!"

One customer tweeted: "Bring it back permanently," while another said: "Better be back next week".

A McDonald's spokesperson said that it will return in a "few weeks" and that it "simply cannot keep up" with demand.

The Sun has spotted customers complaining the burger was sold out as early as last week.

One customer said his local branch in Castleford had "sold out" of Chicken Big Macs on Friday, February 4.

While the McDonald's' Morriston branch, in Wales, posted on Facebook that it had sold out of the burger last Saturday.

We've asked McDonald's if availability of other chicken snacks on the menu has been affected too, and we will update this article when we know more.

The Chicken Big Mac is a copycat of the original Big Mac but replaces beef patties with chicken burgers.

That means it has the triple layer bun, two crispy chicken patties and, of course, all the other bits that create the legendary burger - cheese, lettuce, pickles, and the secret Big Mac sauce.

If you still want your Chicken Big Mac fix, we've explained how an easy menu hack will see you bag a similar alternative - at a cheaper price too.

Foodies are pointing out it tastes more like two Mayo Chicken burgers slapped together.

So if you buy two Mayo Chicken burgers at 99p and tower them on top of each other, it will set you back under £2 - cheaper than the Chicken Big Mac itself which costs around £4.
