All the energy firms that have gone bust in 2022 so far

SEVERAL gas and electricity suppliers have already gone bust this year due to the ongoing energy crisis.

Firms are struggling to cope with rising wholesale prices causing many smaller companies to collapse.

That's because they can't pass the increase on to customers on fixed deals, and other consumers are protected by the energy price cap.

However, bills are still set to soar by £693 a year for millions of households when the cap is raised in April.

A total of 28 energy firms collapsed in 2021, including Bulb falling into administration.

So far, three small energy companies have gone bust in the first two months of 2022, according to Ofgem.

Whoop Energy and Xcel Power both announced they were ceasing to trade last week.

Whoop Energy supplied 50 households and 212 businesses and Xcel Power had 274 business customers.

All customers have been switched to Yu Energy.

Meanwhile, Together Energy - which was 50% owned by Warrington Council - went bust in January, affecting 176,000 customers.

The firm, and its subsidiary Bristol Energy, had not be able to secure emergency funding to help it stay afloat.

British Gas has taken over all of Together Energy's customers.
