Described as an ";apocalypse dream home", it comes equipped with a solar-powered greenhouse, nuclear fallout shelter and a radio set up from the Cold War era.

The unique three-bedroom property is listed in Minnesota, US, and offers have started at £266,000.

The home was specially designed to protect occupants from radioactive debris or fallout resulting from nuclear explosion.

It was built in 1957 with the shelter added in 1961 after President John F. Kennedy urged families to construct them amid the threat of nuclear war.

With new fears escalating over another potential nuclear war after Russia invaded Ukraine, this property could be snapped up quickly.

One online real estate marketplace, Zillow, said that they expect the home to sell quicker than 99 per cent of nearby properties.

Henrietta and Bud Chute were former owners who built the shelter in 1961 after their employers gave money to people to construct them.

“IBM gave all their employees $1,000 (£760) to build one,” Henrietta, a former employee of the company explained in a 2017 interview.

“Bud loved to build things, and he drew it all to scale.”

According to the feature, the shelter’s entrance is marked by a wooden wall ladder, which runs up to an escape hatch leading to the backyard.

The listing describes it as an "excellent rehab opportunity in this authentic and solid 1957 one-owner home".

However, Twitter users were more interested in the "era surprises" that come with the property.

Tweeting about the listing, one user said: "This single-owner 1957 home in Minnetonka comes complete with a solar-powered greenhouse, hidden bomb shelter, and sick ham radio setup."

In response, one person wrote: "This is basically my apocalypse dream home."
