Five cheap tricks to save money on clothes alterations
HAVE you got clothes hanging in your wardrobe that you hardly ever wear?

If you’re neglecting garments because they don’t fit right or they need some TLC, here’s how to stitch and save.

MAKE DO & MEND: Cut any loose threads from inner clothing seams and thread through a needle, then sew over rips and holes.

DOUBLE DENIM: If parts of your denim jeans are worn you can use the hems in a clever way.
Check how much fabric there is then if there’s enough, cut away a little section and place that part over the worn area, while your jeans are inside out.

Sew into place and it should ensure your jeans last a little longer.
TINKER TAILOR: If clothes are loose around the waist, put the item inside-out, grab the excess fabric and draw a line on the fabric where it meets your waist.
Take it off, stitch along the line when still inside out and when you put it on, it should fit to your curves.
For loose waistbands on jeans and trousers, try the TikTok hack of threading a shoelace through the belt band then tie firmly at the back.
SWITCH IT UP: Sometimes a stain on light clothing can’t be shifted but you could use an iron-on transfer to cover it.
Custom transfers start from 70p on Etsy, or update clothes with little accessories such as new buttons.

Cut off the old and stitch on the new to bring your old wardrobe into this season.
