Five tricks to create the perfect Easter egg hunt on a budget
EASTER is almost here so you had best crack on with planning a treasure hunt for the kids.
It need not be costly or complicated to be memorable and keep them entertained.
Here is how to create the perfect trail on a budget.
DON’T SHELL OUT: Whether you are using your garden or heading to a park, remember to count the eggs before you stash them and make a note of each hiding place.
Tesco Clubcard holders can buy mini chocolate eggs for as little as 50p, such as the 70g pack of Reese’s peanut butter eggs. Or grab an 84g pack of Dairyfine mini eggs at Aldi for 55p.
RIDDLE ME THIS: Hobbycraft has four free printable sheets of clues on its website and a blank template should you wish to write your own. It also sells plastic eggs to fill with clues and chocs. A pack of 12 is £2.

BASKET CASE: The kids will need something to gather the treasure in, such as the Easter bamboo basket from George at Asda for £1. Baker Ross sells a pack of four Easter basket-weaving kits that will get the kids making their own for £5.95, down from £7.95.
TECH AND TRACE: Older kids will love an Easter hunt with QR codes they can scan on a smartphone. The superbusymum.net blog has free printable QR codes that reveal clues when scanned. You can normally scan the codes with your phone’s camera app or download a QR reader.
THE GRAND PRIZE: Award the quickest clue-buster a grand prize, such as the Lego Easter Bunny, £13.49 at John Lewis. Prepare some smaller prizes for runners-up, such as Marks & Spencer’s quirky Walter The Sausage Dog chocolate for £5, or a box of five 40g Cadbury Creme Eggs for £1.75 at Aldi.
