New discount supermarket to launch in UK within WEEKS to rival Lidl and Aldi

A NEW discount supermarket is launching in the UK, and it could put the likes of budget rivals Lidl and Aldi to the test.

Shoppers will be able to score a whole range of bargain groceries thanks to the new store's "waste not" model - the only difference is it's online.

is set to launch in the UK in June, meaning just a few short weeks' wait for shoppers hoping to cash-in on a bargain.

It goes by a slightly different name to shoppers overseas though.

Swedish, German, Finish and Danish customers know the retailer as Matsmart.

It sells surplus food from wholesalers at a discounted price - a bit like when you pick up your yellow sticker goods at British supermarkets.

That's because Motatos “saves” foodstuffs that would otherwise be thrown away due to short best-before dates, or design updates on the packaging, and more - selling on the imperfect products for less.

Once the site does launch you'll be able to get your hands on all sorts of discounted items from drinks and snacks to household goods, pet food and even beauty products.

The wide range of stock means it could end up out-doing discount stores we have this side of the pond too.

Especially as shoppers hunt down the best prices they can on the supermarket shelves, amid a growing cost of living crisis.

The only thing you'll have to watch out for are the delivery fees.

As Motatos operates only as an online store you'll have to pay to get the stuff brought to your door.

The delivery fees are based on the number of boxes needed to package the order, reports .

Depending on just how much you end up with in your virtual basket, you may qualify for "free" delivered boxes, or find you have to fork out more for additional packaging.
