Ice cream prices rocket with even woke brand Ben & Jerry’s up by 50 per cent
AS temperatures and the cost of living soar, ice-cream lovers are being forced to part with more cash — even by the “wokest” brand.
Ben & Jerry’s, which has its own social activism team, now charges £4.50 for a £465ml tub of Cookie Dough, up from £3 last year. That’s a whopping 50 per cent increase.
The US brand has this year criticised Home Secretary Priti Patel for her plan to curb migrants and implored America to rethink offering military support to Ukraine.
But despite its website stating core values including “social and economic justice” there is little on keeping its products affordable.
In April, Alan Jope — the CEO of its parent company Unilever — said there would be price hikes and blamed “unprecedented cost inflation” and supply chain constraints.
The Sun on Sunday’s Squeeze Team consumer expert Martyn James said: “While people understand the cost of making ice cream is increasing, Ben & Jerry’s is far from the cuddly old hippies it pretends to be. We don’t deserve to be ripped off.”
Other top ice cream brands have also increased prices, with a Cadbury Flake 99 Tub (480ml) also soaring by 62.5 per cent — but it is still cheaper than Ben & Jerry’s.
