Incredible 6-bedroom home ‘frozen in time’ could be yours FOR FREE – but there’s a catch
A six-bedroom house could be yours for free – but there’s a slight catch.
The unfurnished but beautiful house is located in Calais, Maine, Washington, US, on the St. Croix Island International Historic Site National Park.
However, the catch is that the house needs some serious TLC.
The deal is that the lease-holder occupies the house – whether as a private residence or commercial venture – in exchange for financing the long-term rehabilitation and stewardship of the property.
The home provides an exciting chance for a preservation-minded individual to create something truly unique.
The Italianate-style house was built in 1883 for Scottish immigrant George G. McGlashan.

The two-storey, wood-framed home has nearly 5,400 square feet of interior space, featuring three bedrooms on the second floor and three bonus bedrooms in another wing.
The first floor consists of a front and rear parlour, a dining room, kitchen and pantry. There are also bathrooms on each floor.
There are plenty of Italian style details throughout – including heavily moulded doors and window surrounds, bracketed hoods, four-panel doors and tiled fireplaces.
The attached 750-square-foot carriage barn also features a large sliding exterior door, a second-story loading door, and three horse stalls.
The house sits on 1.5 acres, with gravel access and a parking area.
Another small catch is the timeline – which gives the new owner up to 60 years to lease and enjoy this historic gem.
The house could be used as a home, headquarters, a co-working space, retreat venue, summer home, bed and breakfast or a winter getaway.
