Major high street store reveals change to opening times over Christmas

A MAJOR high street retailer has announced a change to opening times over the festive season.

Home Bargains is shutting up shop on Boxing Day to give staff time off over Christmas.

The retailer has also confirmed that it will close its doors on New Year’s Day.

Home Bargains said that all its stores will be closed on Boxing Day (Monday, December 26) and New Year’s Day (Sunday, January 1) to enable all its staff to enjoy the festivities with loved ones.

The company has also confirmed that all Home Bargains stores will close at 5pm on Christmas Eve to enable our colleagues to enjoy time with friends and families.

A spokesperson for Home Bargains said: “We know how hard all our colleagues have worked throughout the year.

“Being a family-run business, we recognise the importance of spending quality time with our loved ones.

“Therefore, we feel it is only right to support our valued store teams by giving them extended time off around Christmas and New Year.”

The news comes only a day after Iceland announced that it will close all of its stores on Boxing Day.

The supermarket’s managing director, Richard Walker, said all Iceland and Food Warehouse stores will not open on December 26.

He announced on Twitter: “We’ll be closing all our Iceland and Food Warehouse stores on Boxing Day, to give our colleagues a well-earned rest with their friends & families.”

Last year, a number of supermarkets remained shut over the Christmas break to say thanks to workers.

M&SMorrisons and Wilko closed all stores on Boxing Day.

Poundland, The Entertainer and Home Bargains shut stores as well so workers could enjoy the Boxing Day holiday.

Meanwhile, Marks and Spencer has revealed its menu lineup for Christmas – and shoppers can already start ordering the goodies.

M&S is making more than 100 food items for Christmas available to buy online through its .

Party food includes reindeer steamed buns filled with veg and plum sauce (£7 for eight, 320g) and a garlic butter brioche and camembert wreath (£14 for 700g).
