Poundland reveals change to opening hours over Christmas including three dates it closes all 800 shops
POUNDLAND has confirmed which days it will shut up shop during the busy festive period.
For the third year in a row, the discount retailer will close all stores on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, in addition to Christmas Day.
The move is intended to give colleagues a well-deserved break.
Customers can check their local store opening times over the Christmas period on the Poundland website.
Simon Wells, Poundland's people director said: "We really appreciate how hard colleagues work during the year and are closing the stores on the extra days over Christmas and New Year so they enjoy a well-deserved break with friends and family."
The discount retailer has also announced that it will also take on around 1,200 seasonal colleagues to work in stores across the UK and Ireland in the run-up to this Christmas.

Poundland has said that the temporary shop floor roles will end on Christmas Eve, though some colleagues may be taken on permanently where roles are available.
Mr Wells, said: "The extra recruits will help us make sure that our stores are great places to work and shop at the busiest time of year."
The discount chain has also announced that it will reward its 18,000 staff with £25 vouchers to spend in store between December and January.
The firm will also double their staff discount from 10% off to 20% off for all Poundland staff this month.

Mr Wells said: "The vouchers and extra discounts are our way of saying thank you and we know they’ll be appreciated."
The news comes on the same day that Aldi announced an extension of its opening hours this Christmas.
The German retailer said most stores would be opening from 7am to 10pm from December 19 to December 23.
That means customers will get an extra hour to pick up food in the mornings in the run up to Christmas Day.
Stores will also be open until 6pm on Christmas Eve but will close on Christmas Day and Boxing Day as per usual.
The majority of stores will be open from 8am until 8pm in between Christmas and New Year, and until 6pm on New Year's Eve.
Stores will also be open until 8pm on Bank Holiday Monday, January 2, 2023.
Customers are urged to check their nearest store to double-check its opening hours.
A handful of other firms have also announced temporary Christmas recruitment drives to help keep up with the busy festive demand.
Lidl announced last month that it was recruiting over 1,000 new hourly paid roles over the next five months to keep up with shopper demand.
