Tesco Clubcard warning for 2millon shoppers – how to avoid losing your points

TWO million Tesco Clubcard customers have just days left to use up their points or risk losing them.

The chain has warned there are more than £16million in loyalty vouchers due to expire after February 28.

The vouchers were first issued in February 2021, but expire after two years.

But what should you do if you think yours are due to go out of date and you want to use them?

The Sun spoke to Tom Church, co-founder of deal sharing website latestdeals.co.uk, who offered his advice on what steps to take.

Tom said your first port of call was downloading and checking the Clubcard app - this is where you'll see how many points and vouchers you have.

You should receive a statement in the app every three months telling you what vouchers you have left to use as well.

So it's worth trawling through your list to see if there are any that are due to expire.

You can also find your list of vouchers in the app by clicking on "My Clubcard" and then "Vouchers".

Tom added: "Or, if you want your vouchers sooner than that there should be an option to claim Faster Vouchers."

You can download the app via the Apple Store or Google Play.

What is the Tesco Clubcard and how does it work?

There are more than 20million people using the Tesco Clubcard app across the UK.

It's similar to the Sainsbury's Nectar Card in that you get points when doing your shopping.

Tesco customers get one point for every £1 they spend in-store or online.

You also get one point for every £2 you spend at Tesco fuel forecourts.

Once you get to 150 points you can turn them into a voucher worth £1.50.

You can then redeem the voucher, which expires after two years, in-store or online.

If you are using the app and redeeming the voucher in-store, it will show up as a QR code you can scan at the till.

You can use the vouchers at one of Tesco's partner stores as well, including Pizza Express, Disney+ and even the RAC.

There's over 100 partners to choose from in total.

The vouchers are worth triple their normal value at partner locations too.

So if you had a voucher worth £1.50 it would be worth £4.50.

Not only that, but the Clubcard gives you access to exclusive prices on certain products online and in-store.

Tom said: "You should always use your Tesco Clubcard in store as Tesco has changed things so a huge number of prices are cheaper with Clubcard."

What other loyalty schemes are there?

Tesco isn't the only retailer where it pays to be loyal. Sainsbury's and Boots, among others, also have their own schemes.

Under the Sainsbury's Nectar Card, shoppers can earn points when they spend money at a Sainsbury's supermarket or petrol station.

But, unlike the Tesco Clubcard, you can rack up points on your Nectar Card by shopping at other retailers too, including eBay and Expedia.

You get one point per £1 on all qualifying spends in Sainsbury's supermarkets and online.

Plus you can collect one point for every litre of fuel when you fill up at Sainsbury's petrol stations.

One Nectar card point is worth 0.5p so you have to get 200 Nectar points to get £1.

Once you have enough points you can turn them into vouchers to buy your next food shop at Sainsbury's.

Boots' Advantage Card offers customers exclusive discounts on hundreds of products.

Plus, you can build up points when buying items in-store, online or via the Boots app.

For every four points you collect you get £1 to spend.

You can then use the points value instead of cash next time you shop at Boots.

It's worth noting that you must have the full amount of points available to cover your total basket.

So if your shop came to £10, you would need £10 worth of points to use them up.
