SHUTTING DOWN

Major update for Argos shoppers before all Ireland stores close this summer – and you need to act quick

ARGOS shoppers have just a few weeks left to shop online - if they live in the Republic of Ireland.

In January, the retailer, which is owned by Sainsbury's, announced it is closing all of its 34 stores across the country on June 24.

The chain currently employs around 580 people across branches in the Republic of Ireland.

Argos said it would consult with staff and the trade union Mandate, and offer an “enhanced redundancy package” that goes “well beyond” its statutory obligations.

In the same month, it also said home delivery and click and collect services will close down for customers.

In a statement released on its website, Argos said: "We have made the very difficult decision to close our Argos stores and online operations in the Republic of Ireland by 24 June 2023.

"You can still use our Click and Collect service on argos.ie until our stores have closed and our home delivery service will still be taking orders until Wednesday 22 March.

"After March 22, our home delivery service will no longer be available."

It comes after Sainsbury's announced Lloyd's Pharmacy is withdrawing its services from over 200 Sainsbury's stores.

Over recent years, many standalone UK Argos stores have closed and added inside Sainsbury's supermarkets.

It comes amidst high street chaos with a number of well-known brands announcing closures due to increased energy costs, staff costs and soaring inflation.

Independent businesses have been struggling too as they try to make up for losses made during the coronavirus pandemic.

A number of retailers have already closed down branches, or will be closing down branches, this month too.

Argos is closing down its Coatbridge branch, Lanarkshire, Scotland, branch on March 11.

Meanwhile, B&M is set to close its Kilmarnock branch in the Queens Drive Retail park on March 26.

Boots is also closing its outlets in Church Street, Malvern, and Port Arcades Shopping Centre, in Ellesmere, on March 11.
