Four-bedroom home on sale £400k comes with pointless feature – but can YOU spot it?

A FOUR-bedroom home has gone on sale for £400,000 but prospective buyers have been left baffled by a totally pointless feature.

The detached family home looks perfectly normal from the outside.

The three-storey, Grade II Listed property has contemporary decor combined with period features and exposed roof beams.

But the rural house has a bizarre feature in the lounge.

There is a set of stone stairs that just suddenly stop.

And it appears to have a fireplace high up the wall.

The listing makes no mention of the odd features but does state that the home was once two properties.

One home hunter said: “What's going on with this staircase by the way?

“Am I having a stroke?”

He added: “Is that a fireplace at the end of the beam?

The house, in Brighouse, near Huddersfield, West Yorkshire also boasts an office and barn in the grounds.

It is being sold by Martin Thornton Platinum estate agents and advertised on Rightmove.

The property description reads: “This double-fronted, characterful three/four-bedroom Grade II Listed family home blends contemporary and period features with sizeable accommodation on three levels.

“The house was formerly two properties combined to make one spacious family home.

“And is located in this well-regarded and highly accessible location, with ease of access to the motorway network.

“The accommodation comprises an entrance porch with double doors leads to an inner lobby, a large living room, a similarly sized dining kitchen with multi-fuel stove.

“A sitting room with the ‘wow-factor’ with a high angled ceiling, exposed beams and stonework, and a floor-to-ceiling fireplace with a wood burning stove, as well as a home office with an adjoining WC.

"On the lower ground floor is the playroom/bedroom four, which has double doors and steps up to the drive.

“Adjoining this is an office/study/gaming room and a large shower room, which would potentially make the lower ground floor an ideal teenage annex.

“On the first floor are three good-sized bedrooms, the large master bedroom with its own en suite shower room, and a stylish house bathroom with a four-piece suite.”

Regarding the odd stairs, it adds: “Of particular note is the second staircase with its exposed stone flagged steps.

“There is access beneath this staircase to the former keeping cellar.”
