I’m a drinks expert and tried all the booze made by celebrities – huge musician’s wine is the worst
ONCE celebrities brought out perfume in a bid to bolster their earnings, now they’ve turned to the booze market.
Singer Kylie Minogue boasts the best-selling prosecco and rosé in the UK, while A-lister Ryan Reynolds has made millions after selling his Aviation American Gin brand to Diageo for £490 million.
But are they any good? BBC Good Food booze expert Joe Wadsack rates them out of ten for star power.
Kylie Minogue Rosé, Asda, £9
KYLIE has done well. This is what a basic b***h rosé should taste like. It’s very moreish and has a lovely focus on strawberry fruits.
It’s among the best in the market at this price point.
8/10
Maison No.9 Rosé (Post Malone), Tesco, £19
I FEEL robbed before I even start drinking. This smells like old builders’ tea and tastes oily and slightly sour.
This rosé is an absolute disappointment and not remotely worth the price.
2/10
Della Vite Prosecco (Cara Delevingne), Sainsbury’s, £22
THIS shows that there is good prosecco for a price.
It has a texture-filled palate which is creamy with a finishing hit of pineapple sorbet.
It’s clear Cara (and her sisters) have made the best prosecco they can.
8/10
Cali Red by Snoop Wine, Asda, £9
I RECKON this has about six teaspoons-worth of sugar in it.
It’s very fruity but I can’t get past how sweet and sickly this is. It’ll appeal to his fans, rather than serious wine drinkers.
6/10
Gary Barlow Rosé Wine, Morrisons, £8
THIS looks and smells quite lethargic.
The pink packaging just brings out the orange colour of this rosé, and that’s not a good thing.
It’s flabby and fruitless to taste. A poor attempt.
2/10
Aviation Gin (Ryan Reynolds), Tesco, £28
THE moment you pour it into your glass this screams American gin.
It has lovely citrus flavour and a beautiful softness to it. This makes me smile as I taste it. A quality gin.
8/10
Casamigos Tequila (George Clooney), Waitrose, £65
I’M not sure why so much money has been spent on it.
It’s almost like drinking vape smoke, it’s that sweet.
This smells incredibly dull and does not have any of the fruity undertones I expect from a good tequila.
4/10
Proper 12 Irish Whiskey (Conor McGregor), Tesco, £25
NEUTRAL and anonymous on the nose. I can just about get some white flower hints of lily and magnolia but it takes a lot of sniffing.
It’s smooth to drink but the flavours are all over the place. Not great.
5/10
Ciroc Vodka (Sean ‘P Diddy’ Combs), Tesco, £40
RATHER than grain, this vodka is made from grapes.
It has a clean taste but given how expensive this is, it’s not as smooth as it should be.
It doesn’t taste like normal vodka and that’s not a good thing.
