Letty Coronation Cake (serves 12) £7,

★★★☆☆

ASDA’s own cakey caterpillar has received a Monarch makeover for the regal celebrations and this version is sporting a crown, purple robe and decorated with Union Jack themed sprinkles.

The cake is tasty, made of sponge and filled with chocolate buttercream.

Good value and kids will love it.

Coronation Cupcakes (six) £4,

★★★☆☆

FLUFFY cupcakes with Union Jack-themed casings and sprinkles, alongside tiny gold crowns, or sugary royal guards, these couldn’t be more patriotic.

A bit pricier than others, especially as you only get six in a box but each one is a generous size.

Not the best pick value-wise but they look and taste great.

Coronation Cupcakes (nine) £5, Morrisons (in store)

★★★☆☆

A GOOD value for money box of treats all decorated in British flag colours.

The cupcakes delivered the sugary hit you’d expect with a strong taste of vanilla so they are easy to scoff down.

Could be more generous with the topping and the sponges were a bit flat.

Ideal to take along to a party or gathering.

King’s Coronation Cupcakes (six) £2.59, Aldi (in store)

★★★★★

THE discount supermarket reigns supreme price wise with these Union Jack cupcakes and there’s no compromise on flavour either.

They’re full of a lovely vanilla flavour, all topped with patriotic decorations.

An royal looking selection, a bargain price and to crown it all they are absolutely delicious too.

Coronation Colin the Caterpillar (serves ten) £10, M&S (in store)

★★★☆☆

WHILE it’s already considered cake royalty, M&S’s signature Colin the Caterpillar has been officially crowned in time for the Coronation celebrations.

This version delivers everything you’d expect from the rich tasty treat.

It’s great on flavour but once out of the box it’s not as patriotic as some other offerings.

Chocolate and Vanilla Coronation Cakes (nine) £5,

★★★★☆

A NICE box of cupcakes with nine in the pack so lots to go round making them decent value for money.

Alongside four vanilla cakes with sugar Union Jack flags there’s also five chocolate ones with colourful sprinkles.

The plain sponges were dense, but its nice to offer a choice with the choccie ones at a party.

Deluxe Strawberry and Cream Mini Cakes (nine) £2.29, Lidl (in store)

★★☆☆☆

THESE dainty bite-sized cupcakes are quintessentially British with its strawberries and cream flavour.

Delicate sponges topped with vanilla or strawberry cream and gold sprinkles they look picture perfect on a platter.

Trifle Gateau Bar (serves 5 to 6) £2.50,

★★★★☆

THIS frozen cake in British colours is super inviting with it’s cold sponge layers, plentiful cream and strawberry jam, decorated with sprinkles.

It’s not overly filling but I think you could easily stretch this to feed more than five.

This wouldn’t work for a buffet as it needs to be kept frozen but ideal for afters.
