Aldi’s ‘practically identical’ Freddo chocolate dupe sees supermarket in new copying row

ALDI has stoked a new choc controversy by launching a “practically identical” version of Cadbury’s Freddo bar.

Deeno the dinosaur’s wrapping features a green character, red lettering and a blue background — just like frog Freddo.

A ten-pack of Deenos costs £1.75, or 17.5p a bar.

A five pack of Dairy Milk Freddos is £1, or 20p a frog.

Each individual bar of both treats weighs 18g.

Two years ago Aldi was accused of copying Marks & Spencer’s Colin cake with its version Cuthbert.

Shopper Matt Berry said of Deeno: “Freddo’s gonna be fuming. Aldi just love a ruck.”

Another said: “How do Aldi get away with it? Can’t wait to try, but even the packaging is practically identical, haha.”

Gerry Mitchell commented: “Colin and Freddo vs. Cuthbert and Deeno.

“It’ll be a bit like in Jurassic Park……But with cake and chocolate.”
But another wrote: “Perhaps Freddo and Deeno can be pals.”

Aldi and Cadbury were approached for comment over the comparison.

Aldi and M&S reached a High Court settlement in their Colin- Cuthbert copyright dispute and both cakes stayed on the shelves.

The feud was revisited last week when Aldi launched an ad featuring partygoers dressed as caterpillars leading to a stand-off between a Cuthbert and a Colin, and the cakes’ price comparison flashed on screen.
