The most stylish places to live in the UK revealed – where does your area rank?
A COUNTRYSIDE village with medieval buildings and a 15th century church has been voted the most stylish place to live in the UK.
Picturesque Lavenham in Suffolk topped a list of leading locations.
The popular tourist destination sits right in the heart of “Constable country” — where artist John Constable painted his most celebrated works.
It boasts streets lined with timber-framed buildings, a market square and independent shops, cafes and restaurants.
Morpeth in Northumberland came second and Selborne in Hampshire was third, in a survey of 5,000 people.
Locations were ranked according to the beauty of the buildings, the stunning scenery, their popularity with artists and as a filming location.
Lavenham featured in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and BBC’s Lovejoy, about a rogue art and antiques dealer.
Morpeth is a historic market town known for its cobbled streets. ITV drama Vera was recently filmed there.
Selborne, is on the edge of the South Downs National Park.
A recent BBC adaptation of Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations was filmed there.
Furniturebox, which conducted the survey and set up panels across the UK, said: “Lavenham is loved for its quirky architecture and famous crooked house.
“What is interesting is how many of the most stylish locations were not the most affluent places in their locality.
“What marks out the UK’s most stylish places is how they all have a timeless quality achieved over generations by the stylish people living there.”
