The Sun scoops Headline Money award for Give It Back campaign helping disabled kids
The Sun has won Campaign of the Year at the Oscars of financial journalism, the Headline Money awards.
At a , The Sun picked up the prestigious gong for Give it Back.
The Sun’s campaign Give It Back was sparked by the shocking statistic that only 4% of families with disabled children reported getting the support they needed.
The Sun partnered with the Disabled Children’s Partnership, highlighting the £573m funding gap for disabled children and urging the Government to address this.
The campaign sought to give a voice to unheard parents who were battling to get their children the support they needed.
Two campaigns dominated the expert judges’ deliberations, with The Sun emerging as the winner.
Give it Back
“This was a neglected issue across the income brackets,” said one judge “disability is a universal issue, they fought for an interest group not being heard and they owned it”.
Judges praised the campaign for its “amazing storytelling and use of case studies”, packaged together as “a joined-up multimedia campaign”.
The Sun faced stiff competition to take home the trophy, including rivals from Telegraph Media Group, Daily Express, The Daily Mail and MoneySavingExpert.
In addition, The Sun's consumer champion and senior reporter Laura Purkess was highly commended in the Rising Star category.
