DISCOUNT retailer B&M has announced it will be opening 17 new sites this year with doors set to open within days.

The retailer has told The Sun it plans on opening new branches across the UK in both January and February.

B&M plans to open 17 new stores in January and February of this year

The bargain retailer currently has over 660 stores but has a long-term target of 950 sites.

Back in May 2023, B&M announced plans to open 30 new stores in the UK over the past year, including some relocations of older sites.

However, the retailer is taking things a step further this year with several former Wilko stores in its hands to play with.

This is the full list of stores opening in the coming weeks:

  • Porthmadog – January 18
  • Chelmsley Wood – January 25
  • Stourbridge – January 25
  • Allestree – January 27
  • Washington – January 26
  • Wigston – January 26
  • Loughborough – January 27
  • Cathedral Lanes – February 2
  • Harrow – February 10
  • Clowne – February 17
  • Arnold – February 21
  • Guildbourne Centre (Worthing) – February 21
  • Castle Douglas – February 22

  • Beaumont Lays – February 23
  • Gunness – February 24
  • New Cross Gate – February 24

The discounter will be taking on three former Wilko sites in Stourbridge, Washington and Porthmadog, Wales.

Wilko collapsed into administration in August 2023 before a host of possible buyers expressed an interest.

But sadly, a buyer for the whole business couldn’t be found and it was announced all 400 shops would close by October.

B&M agreed to buy up to 51 Wilko locations in a £13million deal in September 2023.

Wilko’s last remaining sites shut for good on Sunday, October 8, 2023.

was also amongst those who purchased former Wilko stores.

Meanwhile, it was agreed in September 2023 that The Range would take the former retailer’s brand name in a £5million deal

Unlike its rivals, B&M has been thriving over the past two years.

B&M opened 21 new stores across the last financial year, including 12 new garden centres and five relocations.

In order to open the new stores the discount retailer has had to restructure its current locations.

The shutters on a branch in Thamesmead will go down on February 22.

The Beaumont Lays branch will also close a day later.
