Outdoor clothes shop with over 300 stores launches closing down sale before shutting branch over Easter

The Sutton Coldfield branch of Trespass is due to close for good on April 4

AN outdoor clothes shop which has more than 300 stores nationwide has started a closing down sale for one of its branches.

High street retailer Trespass has announced it is closing its branch in Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands, just after Easter.

Posters have already gone up in its windows in the Parade saying “everything must go”.

The chain, which sells a variety of its own-brand coats, clothing, socks, shoes, boots and outdoor equipment shut some of its 300-plus stores last year.

Its outlet in Solihull is earmarked to close on January 16.

The Trespass site in the Parade had been a Dorothy Perkins/Burton’s shop which was then split to create the Coffee #1 shop in 2017 and Trespass moving in afterwards.

The shop is now due to close down on April 4, just days after the Easter weekend.

Birmingham City Council own the premises which bought the Newhall Walk retail park along with 15 shops in the Parade from Aldi to Coffee #1 in June 2022 for £15.6million from Railpen, the former British Rail pension fund.

The city’s council has its own financial problems after effectively being declared bankrupt last year and there is speculation it could sell-off some of its assets and retail sites like Sutton, are expected to be in the mix.

However, nothing has been confirmed as yet.

Sutton’s town centre is waiting for its long-promised revamp with the new owners SAV Group and Birmingham Property Group completing the deal to purchase the Gracechurch Centre last November.

It has been hinted that there are plans to introduce homes, a hotel and more leisure venues at the centre.

The proposals are expected to be revealed early this year.

Sutton’s town centre had very mixed fortunes in 2023.
