Major high street retailer to axe rewards scheme in weeks – and exact date shoppers have until to use up points
We explain what to do if you've racked up points so you don't lose out
A MAJOR high street retailer has announced it is scrapping its loyalty card scheme and shoppers will need to use up their points quickly.
The Works has confirmed shoppers will not be able to collect points on its ‘Together Rewards’ scheme past March 30.
An email was recently sent to all loyalty customers letting them know the loyalty scheme will soon be axed.
The Works first launched its loyalty scheme in 2013 and was one of the first value retailers to do so.
The scheme allowed shoppers to collect five points for every pound spent in the store.
Over time shoppers could rack up points and receive vouchers to use in-store.
Shoppers have until 23.59pm on March 30 to collect points and until 23.59pm on June 29 to redeem vouchers from collected points.
The retailer said it’s making an effort to make savings across the business which prompted the decision.
Gavin Peck, chief executive officer of The Works, said: “After careful consideration, we have decided to end our ‘Together Rewards’ loyalty scheme.
“Against a challenging economic backdrop, we have had to look at ways to maintain the most important thing for our customers – every day affordable prices – whilst also making savings across our business.
He added that there would be no change to prices: “We are maintaining prices on hundreds of our key products and will continue to offer great deals such as our 3 for £6 on adult fiction books, 10 for £10 on kid’s picture books and two for £12 & three for £15 on toys, games, art and craft.”
The retailer added it was a tough decision for it to make and it hopes to explore other ways of rewarding its customers.
The Works hasn’t ruled out bringing new reward schemes in the future.
Shoppers took to Facebook to share news and fans were devastated.
One user said: “Aww no way.”
Another said: “Oh no, that’s disappointing….”
“I literally got offered on and signed up yesterday,” cried someone else.”
How does the Together Rewards Loyalty card work?
The Together Rewards Loyalty scheme allows shoppers to obtain five points for every £1 spent in The Works stores.
Each point would be worth 1p so 50 points would equal 50p.
Every three months, Together Rewards Loyalty members would receive vouchers based on the points they earned on their cards.
Together Rewards Loyalty members would also receive exclusive offers, gifts and bonus points during promotions.
What if I have points on my Together Rewards Loyalty card?
If you collect 50 points or more from January 1 to March 30 you will be issued with a new voucher in early April, and you will be able to spend this as normal up to and including June 29.
If you do not collect the minimum of 50 points between January 1 to March 30 they will not roll over past March 30.
The retailer has also said it won’t be signing up any more customers to the scheme from February 27.
If you bought something using a Togethers Rewards loyalty voucher and want to return it, you must bring the receipt and return the item within 28 days, staff will then issue you with a gift card.
