The product maybe unsafe to eat

The popular product may contain pieces of glass

“This product may contain pieces of glass which makes it unsafe to eat,” the FSA said in a statement.

It’s feared people could start spitting blood if they cut their mouth or throat if they don’t notice the shards of glass.

The FSA said “AB World Foods is recalling Patak’s Aubergine Pickle because it may contain pieces of glass.

“The possible presence of glass makes this product unsafe to eat.

“The affected product has only been sold in Waitrose and Sainsbury’s.”

The affected 312g jars have the batch code 3172 on them and a best before date of June 2026.

The FSA added: ‘The company has issued a recall notice to its customers.

“These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.

“Our advice to consumers – if you have bought the above product do not eat it.

A spokesperson for AB World Foods said: “As a precaution, Patak’s has initiated a recall of a small batch of Aubergine Pickle from certain Sainsbury’s and Waitrose stores.

“If consumers have any pickle with the batch number 3172 and a best before date of 06/2026, they are advised to return it to the store they bought it from to be given a full refund.”

In an update, Waitrose said they had carried out the recall.
