HOLE IN ONE: Encourage hedgehogs to your garden by making exit and entry points.

Check your neighbour is on board and dig a hole around 13cm wide and 13cm deep underneath garden fences.

Or you could saw a hole in a panel if agreed by both sides.

The more access hedgehogs have along a street, the more likely they are to start roaming your area.

Try encouraging nearby residents to create a route for the little animals to come and go.

MAKE A SPLASH: Building a pond is a great way to encourage wildlife.
It doesn’t have to be huge — try using an old sink.

Just ensure there are a few slopes so animals can get in and out easily. Rocks or logs make ideal ramps.

Choose a location that is partially sunny and wait for it to fill up with rainwater.

Cheap seeds are available online or, if you want to raise money for Comic Relief this year, you could buy one of Holland & Barrett’s compostable red noses, £4.50.

When it’s planted it transforms into wildflowers.

If you have a lawn, dandelions and daisies may already be present.
