The cheeky offer lets Octopus customers nab a quick Greggs on-the-house, but only if they meet a particular three-point criteria.

Current customers are already joyfully sharing their free coffee and sausage rolls, but some only knew about it when spotting other Octopus customers getting the free food while in one of the bakery's branches.

Posting on the Facebook group Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK - where Brits regularly share their favourite money-saving finds - the user said they had been enjoying free coffees for a month.

The poster - who shared a screenshot of the deal - wrote: "It's been a month now that I'm enjoying a free Greggs hot drink every week.

"This week there was a hot drink and a sausage roll."

Other members of the group leaped into the comments to share their thoughts on the deal, while also noticing a catch that could mean some won't be able to benefit from the scheme.

One user said: "My husband popped into Greggs last week and was going to get a sausage roll when the guy next to him produced his octopus reward.

"He was like 'doh we are with them, I have one of them as well.'"

A second user said: "Yeah my husband has been enjoying the Greggs freebies as well."

And a third said: "My teens take turns to have the weekly hot drink after college, they love it."

But one punter quickly reminded others of what's required to benefit from the bakery goods - and it could mean many customers will still have to put money on the counter for their Greggs breakfast.

They said: "Yeah I'm with Octopus and you only get if you're on a smart meter, daft really."

Octopus Energy launched its reward system - Octoplus - in October 2023, and the firm made it clear on exactly how it works.

On the site, it wrote: "Octoplus is our new reward scheme, launching 19th October 2023.

"Eligible customers can earn Octopoints by taking part in Saving Sessions, and keeping their account in tip top shape.

"You can turn your Octopoints into account credit, or multiply their value by spending them in various ways.

"Right now you can turn Octopoints into account credit but we've got lots of exciting rewards planned which will be launching soon. Watch this space."

To join the scheme, Octopus customers must fit the firm's three point criteria.
