Hundreds of contestants in Altrincham's WA15 9 postcode are now set to walk away with cheques ranging from £9,211 to £27,633.

But husband and wife Sacha and Colin have netted more than most thanks to a simple trick.

An excited Sacha leapt into Colin's arms when his double ticket landed them £18,422.

The couple, who wed in The Bowdon Rooms in 2007, had only been expecting to win a maximum of £10,000.

But they now plan to go on holiday and treat their three children after netting the whopping sum.

Sacha said, "We didn't expect it. We thought we'd won five grand, ten grand tops.

"Absolutely can't believe it - just like the best thing ever!"

Colin added: "I buy two tickets. It makes sense, doesn't it now?

"Nobody believed me for years that I was buying two tickets and I just thought, 'There you go, it proves it'. Amazing."

People's Postcode Lottery ambassador Judie McCourt said: "I’m sure players in Altrincham will be buzzing with excitement for Friday night, and eager to find out how much they’ve won.

"I can’t wait to meet all the lucky winners and celebrate in typical Postcode Lottery style.

"What a way to start the spring!”

Sacha and Colin joined 222 other winners who live in the wider postcode area of WA15 9.

Two other players living in the full winning postcode of WA15 9DZ each banked £407,032.

Recently one winner of the lottery said they didn't always have the best luck - despite securing £12,000 a month for a year.

Retired NHS nurse Meg Carr, 69, and her husband Andy were kicked out their home in 1992 and weren't able to buy it back for 22 years.

But some of her newly-earned cash will go towards a new shower, as her family have thrown themselves into transforming their home since getting it back.

Meanwhile, one dad who won £160,000 on the People's Postcode Lottery only entered the draw after a chance meeting.

Paul Rendles, 64, scooped a share of his lucky street's £1million winnings after meeting a social worker who convinced him to sign up.

The devoted parent had met the employee a few years ago through his youngest daughter, who has disabilities.

A lorry driver also quit his job in "minutes" after realising he had won a mouth-watering lotto jackpot.

How to play People's Postcode Lottery

People’s Postcode Lottery costs £12 a month to play and there are guaranteed winners every day.

People play with their chosen postcode and are automatically entered into all draws.

When that postcode is drawn, people holding the right tickets inside it win.

A minimum of 33% from each ticket goes to charity.

A daily prize of £1,000 is up for grabs, which can double to £2,000 if players have two tickets - and then people can triple winnings if they have three tickets.
