A pre-flight pint has become a tradition for many Brits but they don't come cheap with most punters paying more at airports than they would at their local.

Luxury travel platform Velloy shared its "Airport Pint and Prosecco index" which looked at the average cost of a pint and glass of prossecco across the UK's busiest airports.

Glasgow International took the number one spot, where the average price of a pint at the airport's bars was the cheapest, but still came to a whopping £6.06.

Punters searching for the cheapest drink in the airport can order from Tennent's Pier Bar which offers pints from £4.79.

Unsurprisingly, the most expensive pints could be found in London's airports, with Luton, Heathrow and London City taking the bottom three spots.

However, London Gatwick had a much cheaper average than the other airports in the capital city.

Out of all the airports surveyed, the most expensive beer could be found at London Heathrow's Fullers Bar, where a pint could set you back an eye-watering £10.05.

The study also investigated which airports sold the cheapest prosecco on average.

Leeds Bradford had the highest average where travellers have to fork out more than £11 on average for a glass.

While on the other end of the scale, East Midlands International, had the lowest average costing customers on average £8.33.

The research provided good news for passengers who don't drink alcohol, with more than 70 per cent of bars, pubs and restaurants in airports offering non-alcoholic options.

However, most of those options are soft drinks.

Those looking for an alcohol-free glass of fizz will be more disappointed with only seven per cent of establishments serving it.

Hugo Cannon, founder of , said: "For many, there’s no better way to start a holiday than a pint at the airport or a glass of prosecco to get that “going away” feeling started.

"As a British holiday staple, we were keen to discover which airports are home to the cheapest and best pre-flight drinks, and thought, what better guide for travellers than an index revealing where they can find the most affordable and best-rated drinks?

"If you're trying to decide whether to start your holiday from either London's Gatwick or Heathrow, or either Manchester or Liverpool, we hope our index proves helpful for any keen travellers looking to start their trip with a celebratory beverage."
