Skill up to make extra cash with four savvy ideas to get you started

Plus how to save over £10 on a favourite summer tipple

SHARING skills, learning new ones, knowing where to find an expert or selling your own know-how can all make you better off.

So delay not, it is time to skill up — and here are ideas to get you started . . .

GIVE AND TAKE: No money needs to change hands when you do a fair swap of skills.

If you sign up to your local Time Bank and cut some-one’s lawn, for example, you might earn an hour’s credit which you spend getting someone else’s help.

You can find your nearest group at timebanking.org.

Or perhaps offer to exchange skills on a local Facebook forum or nextdoor.co.uk group.

Everyone has something to give — even just doing someone’s shopping, walking a dog or ironing are help others need, and you could maybe get some language lessons, your shed painted or garden weeds pulled out in exchange.

SHARE THE FUN: On a site such as meetup.com, you are able to organise get-togethers with others who enjoy the same interests.

You might all meet to learn a language, for example, or share a hobby.

If you like cooking, then join eatwith.com to host a supper club or cooking classes — and maybe earn a little money at the same time.

CAFE CULTURE: If you have broken tech and other appliances, find your local repair cafe at communityrepairnetwork. org.uk.

Volunteers may even fix things for free — and you may get furniture, clothes and bikes repaired too.

SELL YOUR SKILLS: Sites such as airtasker.com/uk and taskrabbit.co.uk match people with skills to jobs that need doing.

May and June tend to be the busiest months for posting tasks, so are a great time to try out these sites.

Post a task with a rough idea of how much you are willing to pay, then some-one with the skills will respond.

If you have skills you can offer, from assembling flatpack furniture, to clothing repairs and sewing, you can register to find jobs that fit your skills and schedule.
