Where to get cheap flowers on Valentine’s Day 2018 – the best deals on roses and bouquets for your loved one
Prices actually tend to drop on Valentine's Day itself as supermarkets try to flog surplus stock.
THIS Valentine’s Day a bunch of 12 red roses is the quintessential gift, giving retailers the chance to pump up the price of bouquets around this time of year.
Fortunately, being romantic doesn’t have to mean spending a fortune.
Aldi and Lidl both have the cheapest roses on offer with a dozen selling for just £4 – although you’ll need to get them in stores.
Sainsbury’s and Morrisons are both offering 12 red roses for £15, while you’ll be able to get a bunch of 18 at Asda for £10.
It’s worth noting that prices went up since last year when supermarkets were selling bunches of red roses in store from just £3.
Here’s where to look for the best deals:
Where to get the cheapest Valentine’s Day flowers?
Of course, the cheapest flowers won’t be the best.
Typically, supermarkets sell short-stem flowers, while long-stemmed roses are the more premium ones.
Roses with bigger head sizes are also more expensive, and retailers tend to sell “sweetheart” roses, which have the smallest heads.
Prices actually drop on Valentine’s Day (February 14) itself as supermarkets try to flog surplus stock.
So if you are planning to get flowers for your loved one, you might end up paying less if you get your flowers on the day.
Below, we’ve included the cheapest red rose prices offered by retailers last year in store, for delivery, and the best deals on other bouquets.
What makes the perfect bouquet for your Valentine?
WE spoke to Florismart florists about what makes the perfect bouquet for your Valentine this year, here are their top tips:
- Make it personal: if your valentine loves Spring flowers why buy a dozen red roses?
- Plan ahead: your florist can offer lots of advice to make sure your flowers are the perfect gift if you order in advance and allow them time to go over the little details with you.
- Keep it sentimental: if your valentine has a favourite flower, spoil them with a bunch of those or ask your florist to make them a key feature in a mixed bouquet. It’s a perfect way to show how much you care and take notice.
- Element of surprise: everyone loves a surprise so why not give a single rose on Valentines morning and then wow them with a bouquet delivered to work during the day

Warning about buying flowers and how it can go wrong
If your flowers are delivered in poor condition or they don’t match the description given online, you should be able to get a full or partial refund.
In 2016, Moonpig – which sells more than one million roses a year over Valentine’s Day – was bombarded with complaints after delivering damaged flowers on Mother’s Day.
In some cases, it didn’t deliver anything at all.
TOP TIPS TO GET A REFUND FOR DAMAGED FLOWERS
HERE's what you need to do if your flowers are delivered in poor condition, according to consumer group Which?
- Take a picture as evidence of poor condition or damage to your flowers as this will help support your complaint.
- If a loved one or friend has sent you flowers that have arrived in a poor condition or late, make sure you tell them.
- Otherwise the retailer may say they can’t access the order information and won’t resolve the problem.
- If you order a specific number of flowers but fewer than this amount are delivered to you, you’re entitled to a partial refund for the missing flowers.
If the bouquet you ordered is damaged, the first thing you should do is take a picture of the flowers as this will support your complaint to the retailer.
The person who bought the flowers must be the one to complain, otherwise the retailer may say they can’t access the order information and won’t resolve the problem.
The same rules also apply to flowers that don’t arrive at all, according to consumer group Which?
