GEARING up for a big summer holiday?

With travel excitement comes the often-overlooked headache of airport parking.

But these tips can help keep more cash for your getaway . . .

TRAIN UP: Public transport can be cheaper and more convenient if booked in advance. Plus there’s no chance of getting caught in traffic and missing that flight.

Consider parking at a friend’s house and jumping on the train, and if you can book your train or coach travel 10-12 weeks in advance, you’ll get the biggest discounts.

EARLY BIRDS: Parking prices can skyrocket as your travel date approaches, so it’s advisable to book as soon as your flights are confirmed.

Early booking not only guarantees a spot but often comes with early-bird discounts. But ensure it’s a flexible booking with free cancellation, just in case.

SHOP AROUND: Use a comparison site such as airparks.co.uk or skypark secure.com. Regular users often receive promotional offers, discounted rates and even free parking days.

It’s also worth checking your holiday booking company for deals.

Travelsupermarket.com has an airport parking comparison tool with discounts of up to 70 per cent. Additionally, sign up for airport newsletters to stay informed about the best deals.

VOUCHER STEALS: Before booking your airport parking, take a few minutes to browse voucher sites. At wowcher.co.uk, you can pay £2 to get 40 per cent off airport parking at 17 airports. On groupon.co.uk there are discounts for meet-and-greet park-and-ride firms.

DRIVEWAY DEAL: Just as you would book an Airbnb for accommodation, you can rent a driveway close to the airport.

How to check in for a Ryanair flight

Websites like justpark.com and yourparkingspace.co.uk let homeowners rent out their driveways at competitive rates.

This could be a convenient option for short breaks, but it’s not always the cheapest, so compare it against airport parking options.
