Asda is sending out emails to some shoppers who have money left in their Cashpots - and are set to expire soon.

The supermarket has warned of they don't take any action, they could lose their earned savings.

One Asda shopper received an email telling them they had £3 in their Cashpot that will expire on July 31.

The email read: "We just wanted to let you know that £3 of your Cashpot balance is due to expire after 23:59 on 31 July 2024.

"To avoid losing your earnings, simply convert this Cashpot amount into a voucher before this time.

"You can also move your expiring earnings into your Christmas Saver Cashpot to save for Christmas."

The shopper then shared the reminder on Facebook to warn other customers.

They wrote: "Just wanted to share if you didn't know but your Asda Cashpots do expire!! Mine will expire on July 31 if I don't spend it!! I didn't know this but Asda emailed me, so check your pots!"

Asda Rewards allows shoppers to build up "Asda Pounds" when shopping in-store or online and completing certain tasks.

These Pounds go into a "Cashpot" which you then convert into vouchers to get money off future purchases.

For example, one of the tasks available today sees customers who spend £10 on cleaning products given £1 directly into their Cashpot.

You can also get £1 in your Cashpot if you spend £10 on skincare and cosmetics.

You can download the loyalty app onto your smartphone for free by using Google Play or the App Store.

You have to scan the app at the till every time you do a shop and the Pounds are added to your account.

Customers have six months to convert their Asda pounds to vouchers that can be spent on online shopping as well as in stores.

Asda will, however, send customers a notification reminder to alert them that their points are about to expire.

Shoppers can check their points and balance at Asda Rewards app homepage.

Just like Asda, many other supermarket giants offer loyalty schemes for customers to save some extra pounds.

Tesco's Clubcard scheme allows shoppers to earn points as they shop.

These points can be turned into vouchers for money off food or other reward partner schemes

Each time you spend £1 in-store and online, you get one point when you scan your card or app.

Drivers using Clubcards now get one point for every two litres spent on fuel.

One point equals 1p, so 150 points gets you £1.50, for example.

You'll need a minimum of 150 points to request a voucher.

These vouchers can either be worth the face value to spend in-store at Tesco, or you can double their worth to spend at reward partners, including restaurants, and on days out.

Loyalty card holders can also get cheaper prices on over 8,000 items thanks to Clubcard Prices.

These Clubcard prices save the average member £351 on their annual shop, according to Tesco.

Supermarket loyalty schemes - which has one?

MOST UK supermarkets have loyalty schemes so customers can build up points and save money while they shop.

Here we round up what saving programmes you'll find at the big brands.

  • Iceland: Unlike other stores, you don't collect points with the Iceland Bonus Card. Instead, you load it up with money and Iceland will give you £1 for every £20 you save.
  • Lidl Plus: Lidl customers don't collect points when they shop, and are instead rewarded with personalised vouchers that gives them money off at the till.
  • Morrisons: The My Morrisons: Make Good Things Happen replaces the More Card and rewards customers with personalised money off vouchers via the app.
  • Sainsbury's: While Sainsbury's doesn't have a personal scheme, it does own the Nectar card which can also be used in Argos, eBay and other shops. You need 200 Nectar points to save up £1 to spend on your card. You need to spend at least £1 to get one Nectar point.
  • Tesco: Tesco Clubcard has over 17million members in the UK alone. You use it each time you shop and build up points that can be turned into vouchers - 150 points gets you a £1.50 voucher. Here you need to spend £1 in Tesco to get one point.
  • Waitrose: myWaitrose also doesn't allow you to collect points but instead you'll get access to free hot drinks, and discounts off certain brands in store.
