NOT JUST ANY CHOC

I tried M&S’s viral Big Daddy chocolate bar – it’s really tasty and reminds me of a classic but it costs £7

A WOMAN who tried Marks & Spencer’s “The Big Daddy” bar said it reminded her of a classic chocolate.

TikToker Lia spent nearly £7 to buy the supermarket giant’s popular chocolate bar and said the flavour was similar to Snickers.

The Big Daddy, currently priced at £6.75, is a chunky oversized chocolate bar made with milk and dark chocolate.

It also has a layer of soft caramel with peanut butter and roasted peanut pieces.

The 300g M&S chocolate bar, which serves 10 people and has 537kcal per 100g, has become popular on social media.

In a video review shared on TikTok, Lia said it took her about 10 minutes to find the chocolate bar as it was on the bottom shelf.

After opening the box, she showed the camera that there was no plastic wrap, making the sweet treat more environment-friendly.

She then broke the bar in half, revealing a layer of peanut butter in between the chocolate.

Lia instantly liked the chocolate after tasting it and said: “That is a serious chocolate bar.”

But she soon noticed that the flavour reminded her of Snickers, which is made with similar ingredients – roasted peanuts, nougat, caramel, covered with smooth milk chocolate.

The TikToker said: “It kind of just tastes like Snickers, it kind of is just like Snickers.

“Like if you chop this bar into lots of small pieces, that would be a mini Snickers bar.”

She added: “I mean, it is really good, but it’s also just Snickers, I’m not gonna lie.

“For £7, you can just buy seven bars of Snickers.

“But to be fair, it is really chunky – I don’t know if it’s worth £7, but close, do you know what I mean?”

Overall, Lia rated the chocolate bar 7.5 out of 10.

The video went viral on TikTok, receiving over 370,000 views and hundreds of comments.

A person commented: “Best chocolate bar.”

Someone else wrote: “I’m running to try this.”

While another added: “It’s so good.”

But a TikToker asked: “Is it just a large Snickers?”

Several people pointed out that the price of the bar was lower when it was initially released.

One said: “It was new for Father’s Day for £5 so they’ve hiked the price up! Was disappointed with it.”

Someone commented: “£7 only M&S could charge that.”

A person said they found the chocolate bar at a reduced price of £3.25 in their local M&S.

Snickers bars have a similar amount of calories compared to The Big Daddy, with 516kcal per 100g of chocolate.

They’re sold in a number of different formats including duo packs, small-size bars, and the standard 48g packaging.

The price of Snickers varies based on the retailer, but currently, it is 80p at Morrisons, 85p at Tesco, and 95p at Sainsbury’s.

Taking into account the price at Morrisons and comparing it with the £6.75 price tag of the M&S chocolate bar, you can get more Snickers at a cheaper price.

At 80p per bar, you can buy eight Snickers for £6.4 – overall you would have 384g of chocolate at a lower price.

How to save money on chocolate

WE all love a bit of chocolate from now and then, but you don't have to break the bank buying your favourite bar.

Consumer reporter Sam Walker reveals how to cut costs…

Go own brand – if you’re not too fussed on flavour and just want to supplant your chocolate cravings, you’ll save by going for supermarket’s own brand bars.

Shop around – if you’ve spotted your favourite variety at the supermarket, make sure you check if it’s cheaper elsewhere.

Websites like Trolley.co.uk let you compare prices on products across all the major chains to see if you’re getting the best deal.

Look out for yellow stickers – supermarket staff put yellow, and sometimes orange and red, stickers on to products to show they’ve been reduced.

They usually do this if the product is coming to the end of its best before date or the packaging is slightly damaged.

Buy bigger bars – most of the time, but not always, chocolate is cheaper per 100g the larger the bar.

So if you’ve got the appetite, and you were going to buy a hefty amount of chocolate anyway, you might as well go bigger.

Lia’s review was in response to a video by another TikToker who shared her thoughts on another M&S bar called ‘Whip off the old block’.

The TikToker liked the 200g chocolate bar, which costs £6 and contains marshmallows and salted caramel in it, but said she thought it was not as good as The Big Daddy.

Reviews of different types of chocolate have been booming on social media since a video of a Dubai bar went viral.

Word about the pistachio bar has spread across the world, with some spending a small fortune on it.

Fix Dessert Chocolatier made the gooey goodness, which bursts with unusual fillings.

From filo pastry and vanilla custard to tea and biscuits, these chunky chocolate bars have been selling like hotcakes.

The bars are handmade and have a Middle Eastern twist to them.

While the nut one is the most popular, other flavours include dates, a spiced tea blend called karak, and knafeh, a traditional Arab dessert made with pastry, pistachios, sweet soft cheese, and syrup.
